Investing in people

The best way to ensure the sustainability of development initiatives is to invest in people. With thirty years of experience in development work SOPAR acquired a great understanding of the complexities and dynamics in rural development. SOPAR and its partner Bala Vikasa feel they have a responsibility and it is their privilege to share their expertise and know-how with the rest of the development community. That is why we built the People Development Training Center. (PDTC) The PDTC provides an environment that promotes professionalism and improve the skills of agents of change and development organizations (local, national and international). Our training center enjoys an international reputation and is increasingly recognized as a "Center of Excellence in Community Development.

Training programs

PDTC designs and conducts innovative and relevant training programs for those working with NGOs, government departments, and community-based organizations. Need-based training programs introduce the latest development approaches, which greatly contribute to the success of our curriculum. More than 100 NGOs from India have attended our training programs and as a result, communities across the country are benefiting.

Seminars and Workshops

We provide a platform for program target groups, NGOs, government departments, CBOs, and donor organizations to discuss current development issues and share their knowledge and experience through bi-monthly seminars and workshops. The participants of these programs discuss development concerns and leave with a number of effective strategies to increase the success of their missions.

Community Development Diploma and Certificate

A six-month diploma course in Community-Based Development and also many other short term certificate training programs are being organized by Bala Vikasa for the benefit of NGO staff and those interested in becoming involved with the development sector. We have also launched a new three-week certificate program in Community-Driven Development aimed at international participants. The following themes are part of the certificate: Appreciative enquiry, Rights-based and Asset Based approaches to Community Development, Neuro-linguistic programming, Gender issues, Conflict resolution and Results based management.

Reseach and Consultancy

PDTC offers consultancy services to development organizations, specifically in the sectors of program planning, monitoring, and evaluation as well as Organizational Development (OD). Conducting research and publishing our findings for the benefit of the entire development community is another regular activity we undertake at PDTC.

Multimedia

January, 2008 saw the creation of the Bala Vikasa Multimedia Unit. It was established in order to modernize and streamline the technological communications of our organization. The team will document and broadcast our many efforts through newsletters, mini-documentaries, and the web. We also hope to make instructional videos and more audio material in the future and share with others our expertise in the multimedia sector.
