Board of directors and Staff

The Board of Directors is made up of nine Directors elected for three-year terms by those members present at the Annual General Meeting. The Directors are guided by a charter and a operations manual that defines their roles, their responsibilities and their decision-making power.

Shobha Singareddy, India Program Officer
Shobha has been part of the SOPAR team since 1998. For five years, she worked with Bala Vikasa as Coordinator of the Women’s Program. In 2004, she joined the Canadian team of SOPAR. Her understanding of the field realities in India has enabled her to effectively manage our India Program.

 

Mélanie Leduc, Canada Program Officer
Gadruate of Université de Laval in Psychology and of University of Ottawa in Arts. Has extensive work and travel experience in such countries as Mexico, Burkina Faso, El Salvador, Guatemala and Peru.

 

Laura Avalos, Communication and Fundraising Officer
Laura is fluent in French, English and Spanish and while completing her B.Soc.Sc., Honours in International Development and Globalization at the University of Ottawa, she travelled and lived in 13 countries and did volunteer and paid work for several international organizations such as Development and Peace, CCIC, AIESEC and SalvAide. Laura’s first encounter with SOPAR was in 2004 when she performed a classical Indian Odissi dance at a local elementary school on behalf of our organization.


 

Volunteers

All members of the board and the founders are volonteers.  We would also like to thank other volonteers that give their time and talent to SOPAR either for fundraising, photography, translation and other administrative functions.
